Name: Michael Chavez
I am from: Virginia Beach, Virginia originally (Navy brat), but spent most of my life in the small town of Devine, just outside San Antonio.
Occupation: Vice President of Business Development and Marketing
How I ended up in this business: I actually ended up in the business unintentionally. I was going to school to be an electrical engineer after I got out of the Navy and I got pretty burned out going into my senior year, so I decided to take a summer off by working in the “booming Eagleford Shale.” I started out working as an electronic technician for a frac company, then got an offer I couldn’t refuse to work for Chesapeake Energy. After that, I never looked back at college again! I eventually got an offer to join an oilfield software startup company out of San Antonio called WellAware, which began my career in Business Development.
The one thing I enjoy most about my work: I thoroughly enjoy finding ways to help address our customers’ needs, whether through new product innovation or one of our existing products. At the end of the day, it is a very rewarding experience knowing you’ve helped solve a very big burden or helped a company save lots of money.
My business philosophy is: The customer is always right. This is a very cliché saying, but I mean it from more of a high-level business and product perspective. We should always let the market tell us what our product and services should do instead of building what we “think” our product and services should do.
What are your goals in your business? My goals in our business are to help drive sales to the next level through effective marketing, find strategic alliances, and create new and innovate products to help us become the leader in our space.
What Lubbockites might not know about SitePro? Lubbockites might not know that SitePro is actually a spin off from Amplisine Labs, LLC. We decided to create the spin off to help us strengthen our position in the market by utilizing the SitePro name after two years of high growth.
The best advice I’ve ever received: Emulate the person you want to be until you are that person. I personally try to emulate my mentor in life and business. I think everyone should have a mentor.
The person I most admire is: It’s a tie between my mom and dad. They both came from nothing and worked incredibly hard to provide a life for me that they never had. I plan to pay it forward by doing the same for my children.
My family: I have two beautiful little girls, Ava, 5, and Hadley,3, and an amazing wife, Carol, who is my high school sweetheart. I’m surrounded by women 24/7, and I don’t mind it a bit!
If I could be anything, I’d be: A wealthy philanthropist. I can’t imagine a better life than helping people in need without worrying about money.
I wish I knew how to: Sing. I can’t carry a tune in a bucket.
If I could change one thing about Lubbock, it would be: Move it closer to… well, anything!
When I retire, I plan to: Travel, spend time with family, and become the mentor to others that I had.
